CII Meet: Punjab Unveils Big Policy Push as SUJAN Rolls Out ₹150-Crore Hospitality Investment in Amritsar
CHANDIGAR/ AMRITSAR: Punjab pitched its renewed industrial and tourism momentum at the CII Northern Region Council Meeting on Tuesday, with luxury hospitality group SUJAN announcing a ₹150-crore investment starting with a premium project in Amritsar.
CII Northern Region Chairperson Anjali Singh said Punjab is fast emerging as a magnet for quality investments. “SUJAN’s entry boosts Punjab’s premium tourism profile and signals a strong shift toward tourism-driven growth,” she noted. Singh urged the state to aggressively market land banks, strengthen cold chains, identify heritage tourism circuits, and consider appointing a tourism brand ambassador.
Industry & Commerce Minister Sanjeev Arora outlined the government’s reform roadmap, saying Punjab is finalizing a Master Industrial Policy supported by 24 sector-specific committees. “Punjab is moving ahead with a clear, reform-oriented strategy. The new policy framework will be released shortly,” he said.
Arora said the state is preparing a long-term power plan till 2035, integrating thermal and renewable sources. He also announced land identification for new exhibition centres in Mohali and Ludhiana, with tendering underway, and a similar centre planned for Amritsar.
To boost ease of doing business, clearances for all green-category and several orange-category units will now be given within five days under the Right to Business Act. The government will also reduce stamp duty for women by 1%.
Highlighting Punjab’s logistics strength—10 ICDs, two freight container stations, two international airports, plus Adampur airport—Arora said the upcoming Halwara airport will further enhance industry connectivity.
The meet ended with both CII and the state government expressing confidence in Punjab’s investment climate and the new momentum in tourism and hospitality triggered by SUJAN’s commitment.
