SHIMLA/SOLAN, JULY 7: Marking the occasion of Van Mahotsav, the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), in collaboration with Government College Solan, organised an environmental awareness programme to sensitise students about the importance of forest conservation, biodiversity protection and tree plantation.
As part of the celebrations, around 50 saplings of Deodar, Kachnar, Wild Himalayan Cherry and other indigenous tree species were planted in Sanhole Gram Panchayat and the surrounding school campus to promote ecological restoration and increase green cover.
Addressing the programme, Dr. Suresh C. Atri said that HIMCOSTE regularly conducts awareness campaigns to promote environmental conservation and biodiversity protection. He stressed the need for adopting sustainable lifestyles and encouraging greater public participation in protecting natural resources.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Manisha Kohli. Dr. Tanvi and Dr. Triveni extended support in organising the event, while Ms. Veena Bhardwaj was also present on the occasion.
Representing HIMCOSTE, Ajay Panwar, Dr. Ritvik Chauhan and Ms. Jaypriya interacted with students and highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, sustainable living practices and the crucial role of forests in maintaining ecological balance.
A total of 78 students enthusiastically participated in the awareness programme, reaffirming the need to involve young people in environmental protection initiatives and tree plantation campaigns during Van Mahotsav.
