Two New Judges Sworn In at Himachal Pradesh High Court

In a brief yet dignified ceremony held at the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday, Shri Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Shri Romesh Verma were sworn in as Judges of the High Court.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia in the presence of sitting judges and dignitaries.

All sitting judges of the High Court, including Justices Vivek Singh Thakur, Ajay Mohan Goyal, Sandeep Sharma, Jyotsana Rewal Dua, Satyen Vaidya, Sushil Kukreja, Virender Singh, Ranjan Sharma, and Rakesh Kainthla, attended the ceremony.

Registrar General Bhupesh Sharma conducted the proceedings and read out the warrants of appointment issued by the President of India, formally appointing Shri Bhardwaj and Shri Verma as Judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Shri Jiya Lal Bhardwaj, born on August 20, 1969, began his legal practice in 1994 under Senior Advocate Arun Kumar Goel, who later became a judge of the same High Court.

Shri Romesh Verma, born on May 7, 1974, started his practice in 1999 under the guidance of his father, Senior Advocate Ghanshyam Dass Verma. Both have long and distinguished careers at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, with expertise across multiple branches of law.

 

The ceremony was attended by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Deepak Gupta, several retired Judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court including Justices A.K. Goel, K.C. Sood, Surinder Singh, V.K. Sharma, Rajiv Sharma, and Chander Bhushan Barowalia, as well as the Lokayukta of Himachal Pradesh.

Prominent members of the legal fraternity, including Advocate General Anup Rattan, Bar Council Chairman Lovneesh Kanwar, Bar Association President Hamender Singh Chandel, Deputy Solicitor General Balram Sharma, registrars, advocates, and staff of the High Court Registry were also present.
