Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir:

Security forces detained five suspected individuals during a joint search operation in the general area of Bugam in Kulgam, officials said, as security agencies continue to maintain a close watch on attempts by militant networks to establish or exploit support structures in the Valley.

The operation was jointly launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). During the search, the forces recovered what officials described as “war-like stores”, including four 9mm pistols, four pistol magazines, two hand grenades and ammunition.

The five suspects were subsequently handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for further investigation. Their identities and alleged links, if any, with militant organisations were not immediately disclosed.

The recovery of multiple firearms and grenades underscores the continuing security challenge posed by attempts to move or stockpile weapons for possible militant activity in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security agencies have repeatedly maintained that militant networks seek to exploit local vulnerabilities, infiltrate support networks and identify potential targets for attacks.

While the arrests do not by themselves establish that the five suspects were planning an attack, investigators are expected to examine the origin of the weapons, the suspects’ communications and possible links to established terror networks. Authorities are also likely to assess whether the recovered arms were intended for future attacks or for establishing weapons caches.

The operation comes amid sustained efforts by security forces to disrupt militant infrastructure and prevent armed groups from carrying out attacks against civilians, security personnel and other vulnerable targets.

The latest recovery highlights the importance of intelligence-led searches and coordinated operations to detect weapons and suspected operatives before any attack can be mounted.

Further details are expected to emerge as the Jammu and Kashmir Police conduct their investigation into the suspects and the recovered material.
