SHIMLA, JULY 2: Regulatory violations surfaced across the State as 13 notices were issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and legal proceedings were initiated against two unlicensed clinics during a massive anti-drug enforcement drive carried out under the second phase of the Chitta-Free Himachal campaign.

The statewide crackdown covered the entire pharmaceutical supply chain. Joint teams of the Himachal Pradesh Police, the Special Task Force (STF) and the State Drug Control Administration inspected 482 chemist and medical shops, 22 pharmaceutical wholesalers and seven medical practitioners across all 12 districts on June 30 to detect the illegal sale, diversion and misuse of narcotic and psychotropic medicines.

According to police, the  inspection focused on compliance with drug laws. Teams scrutinised licences, stock registers, purchase and sale records, prescriptions, billing records, digital transactions and adherence to the provisions of the NDPS Act, the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and other statutory regulations.

The police officers said the establishments found with minor deficiencies were counselled and directed to rectify violations immediately.

The operation signals a tougher enforcement strategy against the drug menace.

Instead of limiting action to arresting peddlers, authorities have widened the net to identify loopholes in the pharmaceutical distribution system that could facilitate the diversion of controlled medicines into the illegal drug trade.

DGP Ashok Tiwari said the campaign is part of the State's larger anti-chitta mission. "The enforcement drive forms part of the statewide Chitta-Free Himachal campaign launched by the State Government on November 15, 2025, to dismantle synthetic drug networks through coordinated preventive enforcement and regulatory action".

Police have warned of strict action against offenders.  The police strategy combines intelligence-based operations, regulatory enforcement and disruption of supply chains.

DGP said any individual or establishment found violating the law would face firm legal action and appealed to citizens to report drug trafficking or the illegal diversion of medicines through Dial 112 or the nearest police station, assuring complete confidentiality for informants.
